Recollections of Ijtema Address 2023
“…when Huzoor (aba) asked everyone to stand for the pledge, it reminded me of the time of the election of present Huzoor, when he instructed the people inside Fazl Mosque to sit down. For those of us outside, the air was electric, and when we heard those words we all sat down wherever we were on the roads or pavements. It felt like the ground shook as we all sat unison. And that’s how it felt when Huzoor asked us to stand for the pledge, we all stood wherever we were, inside or outside the Ijtema Gah. And just like the first time, the air felt electric, and the ground shook as we all stood in unison and repeated those words.
I have never heard the words of this particular Pledge in English before. As I was repeating them, the words gave almost new meaning to me to what it means to be a Khadim. These are all things we know already, but it’s like I had almost forgotten and needed this lightning bolt to remind me what the fundamental objectives of Khuddamul Ahmadiyya are, and my desperate desire to be a part of this.
Now it’s time we act on this. As we start the new Khuddam year, I start every meeting with my colleagues agreeing we need to listen to the speech again or read the transcript and take notes. I have my notes written alongside my notes from Ijtema 2022 and 2021. And now the real challenge is for each of us to make our own personal action plan for the coming year and act on it…”
