The Holy Quran – A Perfect Book

What book can be far greater than the one which sets out guidance, core principles, and teachings for mankind?

The Promised Messiah (as) states, “The Holy Quran is a casket of jewels, but people are sadly unaware of it.”

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) emphasises the importance of reading even a single letter from the Holy Quran, calling it the greatest blessing. He states, “Whoever recites a letter from Allah’s book, then he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter.”

For many years, the Holy Quran has been interpreted and commented upon by various scholars to understand what Allah the Almighty is teaching and guiding mankind.
The importance of understanding what Allah the Almighty has stated is crucial for one to build a closer connection with God. This is something the Promised Messiah (as) has emphasised: “I would like to advise my community to learn the Arabic language, because without a knowledge of Arabic, one cannot enjoy the Holy Quran.”

A perfect book will always have an opening chapter that sets out the guidance and principles for mankind to read, understand, and follow.

The Promised Messiah (as) explains that within the opening chapter of the Holy Quran, God teaches us the prayer: “Guide us to the right path.” This is not just a prayer but a promise from Allah the Almighty that mankind can be guided to the right path.

Another verse that helps us understand why the Holy Quran is “A Perfect Book” is noted within Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), Verse 3: “This is a perfect Book; there is no doubt in it. It is a guidance for the righteous.”

This “perfect book” is not merely a promise from Allah the Almighty that you will be guided to the right path when you read it, but it also outlines how this guidance can be achieved.
There are multiple verses that help us understand why the Holy Quran is a perfect book.

Another example is from Surah Yunus (Chapter 10), Verse 58: “O mankind! There has indeed come to you an exhortation from your Lord and a cure for whatever disease there is in the hearts, and a guidance and a mercy for believers.”

This particular verse highlights that the Quran contains teachings stemming from a genuine desire to impart good counsel. Its teachings deeply affect and touch the human heart.

An interesting excerpt from Essence of Islam (Volume 1) showcases how the Promised Messiah (as) links the expression of Khatam-un-Nabiyyin—which has been applied to the Holy Prophet (sa)—to the perfection of the Holy Quran.  He explains that the book revealed to the Holy Prophet (sa) must be the most perfect of all books, comprising every excellence—and indeed, so it is.

“The rule is that whatever degree of spiritual power and inner perfection is possessed by the person upon whom the word of God descends, the same degree of power and majesty is possessed by that word.”

This is why the Holy Quran occupies the highest station and rank, which has not been reached by any previous books or scriptures.

The Promised Messiah (as) states: “Thus, he was Khatam-un-Nabiyyin, and God’s Book was the Khatam-ul-Kutab. From the point of view of every aspect of a miraculous word, the Holy Quran is at the highest stage.”
